Shantanu Banerjee


Shantanu Banerjee is a freshman studying economics. He loves everything about his major, now matter how dry and boring it may be (although he promises he doesn't write like that). Having grown up in Austin, Shantanu believes nothing beats a day spent with friends doing all things Austin-esque: SoCo, Zilker Park, you name it. He also looks forward to SXSW every year - it's his favorite part about the city after having been here 14 years.

This is Shantanu's third semester with Longhorn Life.

Austin City Council’s vote to reduce occupancy levels in ‘stealth dorms’ further increases the difficulty students face when it comes to housing. The vote in February that approved the new limits constitutes one of three votes that will be held on the issue. 

Kome’s lunch and dinner menus are non-traditional Japanese that follow personal family recipes while also incorporating elements from the chef’s background —Austin and New Orleans.

Rent continues to rise in popular areas such as West Campus and East Riverside, even with the addition of new apartments. Rising demand, the incoming medical school and larger class sizes are some of the possible explanations as to why rent has not decreased.

Spring break’s overlap with the South by Southwest music and film festival offers students on a budget an ideal way to gain free access to festival passes that can cost as much as $1,695.
