Take a break from the books

Finals week is that time of the semester where we flood our bodies with caffeine in the hopes of being able to survive long hours of studying. However, your body (and your sanity) can only take so much, so you need to make sure to give yourself a break! And let’s be honest; Facebook does not count as a legitimate break from studying. Reward yourself after knocking out one of those exams by checking out one of these on-campus events.

Alpha Xi Delta Creative Cram and Coffee
When: Thursday, May 10 — 1 to 3 p.m.
Where: FAC Patio
Since you’re already filling yourself with caffeine, why not get some for free? Grab free Starbucks Coffee and a free coffee tumbler. If studying is draining your brain of its creative juices, get them pumping again by decorating your tumbler with paint markers from Michael’s. Be sure to get there early because it’s only available while supplies last.

“Curtain Up! Hats Off to Broadway”
When: Wednesday, May 10 and Thursday, May 11 — 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Where: Lab Theatre (LTH)
The biannual showcase by the Department of Theatre & Dance features popular hits from a variety of Broadway shows and is free and open to the public. What better way to relieve stress than by singing and dancing your heart out? Or, at least doing so vicariously through the performers…

Longhorn Film Showcase
When: Saturday, May 12 — 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Where: McCullough Theatre
Since you’ve probably watched every movie on Netflix twice, check out a fresh batch of films made by talented students here at UT. The Department of Radio-Television-Film hosts their second annual showcase, featuring nine of the best student films from this year. And for those of you who don’t have Netflix, even better, it’s free.

Texas softball vs. Baylor
When: Sunday, May 13 — 1 p.m.
Where: McCombs Field
It’s Sunday Funday, so go support our Longhorn ladies when they play against Baylor for their final regular season home game. Plus, the weather is set to clear up and we know you’ll be dying to get outside after a rainy week studying indoors. Tickets are less than $10 or free with your LASP and UT ID.

Studying for finals doesn’t have to mean waving goodbye to your social life until summer vacation. Every once and awhile your body and mind deserve a short break. So, ditch the textbook and laptop, grab a friend and head to one of these events on campus. Afterward, you’ll feel refreshed, ready to study again and able to ace that test in no time.
